We recently celebrated the 100th day of school and Wynter needed to put something together using 100 items. We’ve done the sugar cube igloo, the skittle rainbow, and the board with ten of ten random items. But this year … I, ahem, I mean we, decided to think outside of the box. Or actually … given our activity … I guess we stayed inside the box, didn’t we? ;)
This here is a Chinese abacus. An ancient counting tool … although I hear some actuarials still use it today! {hee, you know who you are!}
Anyhoo … I found a pretty J.Crew shoe box, some colored twine, fruit loops, and Japanese paper tape. Super easy … and pretty on the eyes too, don’t cha think?

Brilliant!
Oh, for cute!! That is an awesome idea!! Math help & snack time all rolled into one! ;-) Love it!
Super cute!!! Is there ever a time you’re stumped creatively? Between you, Heather, and Leslie I think you own the market on creativeness.
I think this is a wonderful idea! Although I would probably eat it before it got to class:) Yummy I just love Fruit Loops:)
So cute! I love the tape accents!
Very cool! Can I use this abacus for my next actuarial exam? Much better than any scientific calculator I’ve ever used.
So cute and simple, but sure doesn’t look simple! Nice work! (and nice work taunting matt too!) :-)
Great ideas for future “100 days”…my daughter (Lola) had her 100 day on Monday…we did heart shaped marshmallows (we had LOTS left over after making our valentine s’more goody bags)
Great idea, you are so creative. A wonderful thing to pass on to the girls.

We had 100th day last week too. Boy do I feel like an underachiever! When M &M are in 1st grade I’ll have some new ideas though!
