back-to-school schultüte

Not sure I’ve ever mentioned, but Taylor’s dad {my ex-husband} is from Germany.  I’ve visited the country many times and am completely in love with it.  The food, the culture, the land … the traditions.

The schultüte is a classic German tradition.  A child is given one of these ‘school cones’ filled with goodies on their first day of school.  By first day of school, the tradition means … very first day of school ever.  So please understand I’ve used this tradition loosely in giving one to my freshman!  ;)

Anyway.  I found these personalized schultüte’s {not sure if it’s correct German grammar to apostrophe s that word … but play wit’ me}, on my fav shopping site ever … Chasing Fireflies and had to get them for the girls.

They were here waiting for us when we returned from vacay … perfect timing since Tay started school the day after we got home!

We have a crazy staggered start to school this year … I dare you to follow along:

  • Taylor started Monday {half day}
  • Piper started Wednesday {full day}
  • Hunter started Wednesday {half day}
  • Wynter starts today {full day}
  • Hunter goes half day today
  • Friday … all kids … all day

Anyway.  With the crazy schedule, instead of waiting for the day each girl starts school, I decided to go ahead and give the girls their treasures on Sunday night.  They were so excited to dig in!  Some pretty cute things inside … I was going to get a photo of some of the goodies, but didn’t get a chance to.  :(

In case your wondering who Hunter gets her brows from … she got into a fight with some makeup {her latest extracurricular}.

And how cute are her tootsies gripping that cone?!

I love these crazy kids of mine!  How blessed am I?

I had a brilliant idea {happens every once & a while} … and plan to save these and refill them before the start of each school year … I love finding easy ways to start and keep little traditions.

And if you’re the crafty type, I found a site that gives a tutorial on how to make your own.

Happy back-to-school everyone!  May your pencil always be sharp and your eraser soft enough to erase!  :)

    SO cute! I saw the tutorial but didn’t have time to pull that one off! EJ & I are going to make cookies to have with Jack when he gets home on his first day…that’s all I could manage (and they are the place & bake kind too)! :-) Love this though & the girls look thrilled!!! Such a cool tradition…
