my adventurous girls

filed in: girls, lake owen

I love that my girls are so adventurous.  Don’t get me wrong … some of the things they do scare the beegeezes out of me!  Like this … this is them. on the roof of the SUV. as CJ drives them through the northwoods.  {p.s. I was no where around when this was being done!}

And this is them enjoying some water sports this weekend in 60 degree weather!

Can you believe Hunter’s jumped from the balcony already too?  Crazy.

And … one last scary adventure we had … the girls have been begging to go night tubing.  So last night we had them out on the tube all ready to take off.  CJ guns the motor, there’s a large wave in front of the tube as it hit the water.  And then … nothing.  That’s what I saw behind the boat.  Nothing.

No tube.  No kids.  Nothing.

I started screaming.  And after what felt like minutes … the tube reemerged and finally behind it the two girls.

Hope your holiday weekend was a tad less adventurous! ;)

back-to-school :: 2010

filed in: family photos, gift idea, girls

I started a tradition last year with these back-to-school schultüte’s and brought them out again this year.  I was a little late in the game in getting some goodies to fill them with … but that turned out to be a blessing!

When I bumped into this earlier in the week, I knew it would be perfect and scrambled to get it together for the girls.  I was worried they would think “huh?”  But they totally loved it.  They gathered all their little things together and sat around me, picking up each item as we read the corresponding note to go with it.  Piper even taped her little cards to her bed.

Um, yeah.  Hunter’s been our little fashionista lately.  This headband is a photo prop, but she’s sort of claimed it as her own.  She even wore it to school yesterday … Lord, help us!  But I s’pose, if anyone can pull it off, my cutie pie can!

And here are my girlies on their first day of school.  Well … actually, Taylor hasn’t started yet.  I’m running into some glitches and red tape in getting her curriculum, but hopefully sometime next week she’ll be starting.  It’s been nice having her hanging around with me though!

Hope your school year is off to a great start!  Oh! and those Ireland photos I threatened promised you? hopefully next week … things have been a wee bit unexpected {with a tad of crazy thrown in} around here!

my world travelers {tuesdays unwrapped}

filed in: girls, tuesdays unwrapped, vacation

Big sigh.

My world travelers.

It’s work.  Stressful.  And tiring.

But look at them.  My four girls.

It’s a photo like this that makes it all …

Rewarding.

an unexpected vistor

filed in: family photos, girls, photography

What a blessing when I received an email from this little guy’s mom a few weeks ago!

He’d just turned a year old and I had yet to meet him.  And not only was I looking forward to meeting him … I was looking forward to seeing his mommy too!  It’d been a few years since I’d seen her last and couldn’t wait to catch up!  But more on that in a bit …

Isn’t he the cutest thing?  He was so good and pretty much up for everything we asked him to do!

And now on to the juicy stuff!

Michelle {blondie} and Aimee {little guy’s mom} used to be our nannies.  More like family really!  The photo below was taken on Aimee’s last day with us … I can’t believe how little the girls were and how quickly the time has gone!  How cliche am I?

And now Aimee and Michelle are both married.  And happy.  And Aimee has a little guy of her own!  Crazy!  And awesome!  Both live out of state, so we really don’t get the opportunity to see them.

When Aimee and I were talking and scheduling the shoot, we didn’t really say anything about the girls and I didn’t want to push having them along if it didn’t work in their plans.

Piper and Wynter still talk about them and remember them as if they were one person.  They totally remember the things they used to do together and the memories and bonds they made.

Anyway.  We’d finished with little guy’s photos and sat around talking awhile.  It was finally decided that they needed to see the girls … so what’s a mom to do?  I drove over to school and pulled them out early.  It was a complete surprise to the girls and they were so excited.  I made them guess who was visiting and it was Wynter that finally guessed who.

Meanwhile, I called my sister and asked if she could drive to Taylor’s school to pick her up and drop her off at the studio.  I told Trish the whole story, but told her to keep it a secret from Taylor.  I also kept it a secret from Aimee and Michelle that Taylor was stopping by.

I can’t begin to describe the smiles and hugs and happiness that filled the room when they were all together!  And instant game of hide & seek broke out and the girls loved it!

Piper had pajama day at school … and has recently transitioned into some of Taylor’s old clothes.  Michelle recognized right away that the pj’s Piper had on used to be Taylor’s.

These ladies are just such a special part of our past …

Guys … you’ll forever hold a special place in all of our hearts … I can’t tell you how you’ve blessed our families and helped shape the girls into who they are today.  Love and miss you!
