So. I’m planning Hunter’s fourth birthday. Four!
She’s all over the princess tea party idea and is beyond excited. We’ll be doing some traveling over the next few weeks, so I’m working to get her party all set up and ready before we go. Each day something new is added to the “party site” and she pulls everyone up to take a look and see what’s new … too precious!
Anyway … so a couple of things …
First: I’ve finally decided it was time to take a crack at learning and playing with the studio lighting I have set up in my studio. Quite honestly, I’ve been both uninspired to shoot there and intimidated.
Second: I wanted to have some princess photos of Hunter to use at her party, so I dragged took her into the studio as my guinea pig subject.
I’ve still got a boat load of learning to do … summin’ went wonky with my shutter speed, so the images captured my shutter as it was closing {hello black lines on the same outer edge in all 300 images!!}. If you look closely in these images, you’ll see what I’m talking about, but after a handful, I got a little tired of my clone tool and editing!
Anyway … overall, I’m pretty happy with the results, and I got what I needed for her party … so I claim success.

Tracie, these photos are amazing. Black lines??? I’m too busy admiring her pretty smile and adorable outfits. Looks like Hunter enjoyed the photo-shoot too :) She makes such a beautiful little princess!

ohhhh a princess party!!!! YEAH! Congrats to you for stepping out of your comfort zone and experiementing with studio lighting… I’ve never done it! I think your soft lighting looks incredible… not flashy at all. Your model is of course perfect in everyway possible. I LOVE her those frilly little numbers… I think you’ve got some excellent images for princess invites and thanks yous. :):)

I need to do something like this with my own little “princess” (she looves princesses too and always wants to be one) though I know she would never, EVER think of posing as beautifully for photos as your girl does! :)
Also jus wondering how you get your photos to appear so large in your blog? For some reason no matter the size of my photo they all show up the same (small) size. Wish they were bigger!

can you believe that not only did you produce the art that is your daughter, but you made these stunning images? these are pretty darn gorgeous! i love how you do your thing. you decided one day that you loved ‘eye candy’ beautiful photography, then you set out to make them yourself. quite amazing, really.

Traci, we met at Me Ra Koh’s Chicago workshop. I wanted to make a comment about the black lines and shutter speed. When using flash (strobes and ocf) you have a sync speed. I think you shoot canon, if so canons sync speed is 200. You can use lower shutter speeds, but cannot exceed the sync speed. Keep practicing!
