purple casts & pill bugs

Little Huntie broke her elbow on Sunday.

She was out on the trampoline with her big brother and sisters.  Odinn is so careful with them and loves them so much.  This particular accident, just happened … as accidents do.

He takes turns bouncing them, while the others sit and wait their turn.  This particular time, Hunter got up and behind him.  He didn’t see her and a combo of bumping into her and bouncing her at the wrong time, caused her to fall with her arm behind her and snap … the elbow broke.

Odinn came in with her … she was crying she couldn’t move her back and arms.  We were worried it was a back injury.  Curt comes screaming for me, “We need to take Hunter to the hospital!”  My blood starts pumping.  I yell for Taylor to come sit with the girls.

And off we go.

We have an ER doctor friend {blessed are we!}, so called him to see if he was working.  He was not.  But he called and had things ready for us when we got there.  A wheelchair and room were ready and waiting … so awesome!

By then, we were a little less suspicious of a back injury, but just in case, they got the hard board thing and scooted her onto it.  They also cut her dress and jacket off of her.  Yeah.

She was being a super trouper!  They got an IV in her … blew out her vein {yikes!} and had to try again.  By that time she’d fallen asleep before the morphine even started.

Then the obnoxiously loud x-ray tech came in to get her.  Maybe she doesn’t have kids?  Or maybe she didn’t realize her elbow was in A LOT of pain?  I’ll just leave it at that.

Hunter did get a couple doses of morphine and it seemed to really help her.  We also found SpongeBob SquarePants on TV … ever hear a drugged up kid sing the SpongeBob theme song?  Totally awesome!

I tried to get it on video, but apparently it was a one-time gig.

I did get this video though.  I was asking her to sing it again {Tay asked me to get it on video}, but she wouldn’t.  But she did flash me a big smile!  She is the most adorable creature alive.  I’m allowed to say that, right?

We She made it through the ER visit just fine and home to lots of hugs & kisses.  The doc put a temporary cast on her arm and that seemed to do the trick.  She was in minimal pain.  But in maximum princess mode!

Get a look at her set up!  Blankie, juice, toys, and flash cards!  Only my girls would have insect flash cards …

Monday, we headed to the orthopedic doc to get fitted with a brand new purple cast.  She got to pick her color … she chose purple and loves it!

He decided it’d be too soon and ultimately too painful to unwrap what the ER doc had done the day before … so he put her cast around what was already done.  It’s heavy.  She’s super cute when she “carries” her arm.

Okay, so Monday night is dance class and there was no way she was skipping!

And a broken elbow definitely isn’t keeping her off the computer!  And yes … that’s a bomb pop.  Ailing babies get all kinds of treats!

And … I came home from a photo shoot last night and this little princess greeted me at the door.  Since I already had camera in hand, I asked if I could take some pictures of her.  She agreed.

Do I have to tell you how much I love this child?  Sigh …

I got this comment on Facebook from another mom at our school:  “I just saw Miss Hunter in the nurse’s office getting ice for her elbow {no worries – she was smiling}.  But I have to say that the combo of the ballerina tutu and the cast was absolutely adorable – especially because her little shirt was pulled up …”

Double sigh …
